then we could use the oil for more gasoline, this is just a common sense question, plastic, or gas. this is not hard to understand. Why don`t our leaders put a ban on plastic products? they are made with oil products.?
We should first ban products that contain platinum, gold or diamonds. These items are far rarer than oil and very expensive to extract.
If you want to reduce the amount of plastic products produced, STOP BUYING PLASTIC PRODUCTS. It really is that simple.
If you want the price of oil to go down, reduce consumption. You know, drive less. Take the bus, walk, car pool. Why don`t our leaders put a ban on plastic products? they are made with oil products.?
I live in a city where plastic grocery bags are banned, next on the hit list are plastic garbage bags. Not only is is saving oil, it is saving companies money.
I would also like to ban plastic water bottles, you can just as easily buy a refillable stainless steel, surgical steel one and fill it yourself. You don't have to worry about bi-phenol-A and ladies, it makes an excellent weapon.
Can you imagine the savings?
I also really see no point in plastic forks, knives and spoons. I am sure people could learn to carry around their own cutlery (I do, mostly because I am a germaphobe and don't like the fact that I have no idea where plastic forks came from and who touched them) Likewise, do we really need straws?
There are a pile of things we could do away with and not really miss. There are many things which are essential. and we do need. Curbing out habits will make a difference however we very set in our ways.
It would totally disrupt our lives, even if you live in a log cabin and grow your own food. Moreover, if you burn three gallons of gas to make one metal or wooden replacement that took the equivalent of one gallon to make of plastic, you haven't gained much, have you? That's why we have a system to figure out these cost/benefit ratios, and that system isn't the government but the market. When it makes economic sense to switch, we'll know because it'll be cheaper.
One thing most don't understand is , Crude oil products are used in about 97 % daily activity in each one of our lives.
So many products are refined from and have included some form of derived chemical or substance that came from crude oil.
Plastics, etc so much too list it would be impossible to use one thread. Even with alternate fuels comes the bi product consumption into daily items of creature comfort, like your remote control. The system needs to change, how long you think we can drain the planet of it's life blood before it has a heart attack? IE Earthquakes , weather disruptions based off the current pulse of the earth via relation to the universe.
I think the theory of 13 cycles was correct and that will start roughly at 2012. The oil use needs to stop , period!
Well you have to take in consideration that there are many life saving devices that are made of plastic, not to mention plastics that are required in items we use everyday, for instance the keyboard that you are typing on right now.
Now should we reduce the use of plastic grocery bags and bottles and needless over use of it in packaging...absolutely.
what you dont like cd's, dvd's, telephones, hypodermic syringes, pacemakers, computers, televisions, PC boards,
food containers, kids toys, credit cards, man this could go on all day.......
I guess they could make my American express out of wood. no wait that would not work the magnetic strip is bonded to the credit card with oil byproducts
';banning'; all plastic would mean your computer wouldn't exist any more... nor would about 80%+ of the hard medical supplies out there.
China banned plastic groccery bags which will save 37 million barrels of oil/year...
Great idea! But do you know how much that would affect healthcare...
